Privacy Policy

oTranslate is a translation and language-assistance app published by Caitty (“we”, “us”). This policy describes the information processed when you use the main app, the iOS translation extension, AI features, purchases and optional rewarded advertising.

The short version: no oTranslate account is required. Supported on-device translation is processed by Apple’s system framework. AI features send only the text, question or image needed to produce the requested result. We do not send your translation text or attached photos to advertisers.

1. Information You Provide

Selected and entered text

When you open oTranslate from the iOS Translate action, the host app and iOS provide the selected text needed to perform translation. You may also type or paste text in the main app. The text is used to show the original, translate it, create an explanation, summarize it, revise grammar or wording, or answer a follow-up question you request.

Photos and image questions

If you choose to attach a photo, oTranslate receives the image you selected through Apple’s photo picker. The app prepares a resized image for the request and displays a local preview. When you send the question, that prepared image and your question are sent to our service and an AI model provider capable of understanding images. Photos are not uploaded merely because you opened the picker or previewed an image.

Support communications

If you email support, we receive the email address, message and attachments you choose to send. We use them to reply, diagnose the issue and maintain a reasonable support record. Do not include private translation content unless it is necessary for the request.

2. On-Device Translation

The free on-device path uses Apple’s translation framework and downloaded language resources. That processing is performed by system technology on your device. Availability depends on the device, iOS version, selected language pair and installed language resources. oTranslate does not charge Stars for this path.

3. AI and Online Translation Requests

When you deliberately use an AI or online translation feature, the app sends the following information over HTTPS to our Cloudflare-hosted service:

Our service routes a request to the configured translation or AI provider, which may include DeepSeek models delivered through an API platform, Google translation services or other model providers shown in the app. These providers process the content to return the feature you requested. Their infrastructure may process data in countries different from yours.

We do not use translation text or attached photos to build an advertising profile. Operational and security records may be retained for a limited period where needed to prevent abuse, investigate failures and keep the service reliable. Avoid submitting highly sensitive personal, medical, legal, financial or confidential business information to an online AI feature.

4. Information Stored on Your Device

oTranslate stores app state locally, including:

The app and its translation extension share this information through an Apple App Group container that belongs to oTranslate. No oTranslate account is created. Deleting the app may remove local history, favorites, balances and settings; make a copy of anything you need before deletion.

5. Purchases and Subscriptions

Apple processes Star-pack purchases and Premium subscriptions through the App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive your full payment-card details. The app receives product, transaction and entitlement information needed to credit Stars, remove ads for active Premium members, restore an active subscription and prevent duplicate fulfillment. Premium grants are finite: 100 Stars for a verified weekly transaction, 500 for monthly, and 6,000 for yearly.

Apple associates purchases with your Apple Account under Apple’s policies. Refund requests and payment disputes are handled by Apple. An active Premium entitlement is checked through StoreKit; consumed Star balances are stored locally and are not restored as a recurring entitlement.

6. Optional Rewarded Advertising

The main app may offer a Google AdMob rewarded video that you can choose to watch for Stars. It does not begin automatically. Depending on your region and consent choices, Google and its advertising partners may process device information, advertising identifiers, IP address, ad interactions and approximate location derived from an IP address to deliver, measure and protect advertising.

Where required, oTranslate uses Google’s consent tools and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before tracking authorization is requested. You can deny tracking and still use translation features. When the privacy-options entry is required, it is available in Settings so you can review or withdraw consent. Selected text, translation output, AI questions and attached photos are not supplied to the advertising SDK as ad-personalization content.

7. Website Analytics

The oTranslate website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate page visits and App Store link clicks, and may load Google AdSense. Those services may use cookies, IP addresses, device/browser information and interaction data under their own policies. Website analytics are separate from translation content inside the app.

We share information only with service providers needed for the purpose you requested, with authorities where legally required, or in connection with a business reorganization subject to appropriate protections. We do not sell your translation content or attached photos. We do not allow advertisers to use that content to target ads.

10. Security

Network requests use HTTPS. We limit the data included in model requests to what is needed for the selected operation and keep primary history on the device. No system can guarantee absolute security, so you should not send information through an online AI feature if disclosure would cause serious harm.

11. Children

oTranslate is a general-purpose language utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the equivalent minimum age in a user’s country. The AI feature can respond to open-ended input. Parents and guardians should supervise use by a minor and should not permit a child to submit personal information through AI or support messages.

12. Your Choices and Rights

You can choose not to use AI, online translation, photo questions or rewarded video. You can remove local app data by deleting the app, change advertising consent through the available privacy controls, and manage purchases through your Apple Account. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection for personal data we control.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when features, providers or legal requirements change. The revised date appears at the top. Material changes may also be described in the app or its release notes.
