About Keyboard Testing

Testing your keyboard is essential when purchasing a new keyboard, troubleshooting input problems, or verifying that all keys work correctly after repairs. This free online keyboard tester works with all types of keyboards including mechanical keyboards, membrane keyboards, laptop keyboards, and wireless Bluetooth keyboards.

When you press a key, this tool detects the keycode and highlights the corresponding key on the virtual keyboard layout. Keys that have been successfully tested are marked in blue, making it easy to see your testing progress. The "Last Key Pressed" display shows detailed information about each key press.

Common keyboard issues include stuck keys, keys that don't register, or keys that register multiple times (key chatter). If a key doesn't highlight when pressed, it may indicate a hardware problem with that specific key or its underlying switch. For mechanical keyboards, this could mean a faulty switch that needs replacement.
